The Story of a soul tortured by mental illness

Unbeknownst to the jurors who convicted Greg Thompson of first degree murder and sentenced him to death, he suffers from a severe mental illness. He has been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder, schizo-affective disorder and schizophrenia. Most doctors who have seen him recently have settled with schizophrenia as the illness which has crippled him for decades.

Schizophrenia, indeed all forms of psychosis, generally begin early in life. Greg Thompson experienced a drastic change in behavior subsequent to high school and prior to the instant offense. Greg’s girlfriend at the time and his sister witnessed a bizarre change in behavior when he was between the ages of 17 and 23. Greg exhibited paranoid behavior, crying spells and would “snap” into other spells where he would inexplicably overreact to minimal external stimuli. Greg’s companion witnessed him “snap” immediately prior to the kidnaping and killing of the victim in this case.

There is no dispute that Greg suffers from a severe mental illness. Since his incarceration on death row prison doctors have treated Greg for his severe illness. They have prescribed him anti-psychotic, anti-depressant and mood-stabilizing medication. Greg suffers from delusional thought process, psychosis, flight of ideas, auditory and visual hallucinations, mania, paranoia, self-mutilation and suicide attempts. Greg Thompson’s prison file consists of over four thousand pages documenting his severe mental illness. Medication therapy notwithstanding, Greg’s disorganized and delusional thought processes have never been abated.
